Once upon a time there was this little MMORPG that went by the name of Everquest. It didn’t interest me until about 3 or 4 months after release. I read an article in PCGamer that made it sound so interesting that I went to EB games and bought it. Needless to say I was ADDICTED to that game for about 6 months. Pulled many all nighters playing that game.

But no…..That isn’t my secret.

A couple of years ago I was waiting or the sequel to that game….Everquest 2. I remember how much I was addicted to the first game and even though I was older and had a little more self control, I still wanted that feeling again. At the same time..WOW… or World of Warcraft was getting a lot of hype. I went against the hype and stuck to my guns about Everquest 2. I just remember how great I thought Everquest was and thinking "how could I go wrong with getting the sequel instead". So I pre-ordered it. It didn’t come the day it was suppose too, I got impatient and bought a second copy at Compusa.

Ok I was wrong!!!!

Everquest 2 was not good, I should’ve went with WOW.

But still no…thats not my secret.

I did end up buying and playing WOW later on, and really liked the game. I went back to it a couple of times and to be honest, I’m ready for the next big thing (if its out there).

I have a dirty little secret that Im going to admit to you all today.

For the past 2 weeks I have been playing World of Warcraft.

I know what your thinking…"big deal". But the fact that I was playing WOW isn’t my secret. My secret was that I was playing WOW all by myself, on a PC that wasnt connected to the internet. I got to level 40 in about 4 or 5 hours. At level 40 I was wearing level 60 armor, had a level 60 weapon, and soon after I was going through all the instances that Ive never got a chance to see.

How did I do it?

I’m not going to link to any sources cause honestly, I don’t know if this is legal or not, but if you do a search on google for WOW private servers, or WOW emulators. you’ll find all sorts of information on how to set up your very own World of Warcraft server that you can play on all alone (or with friends if you want to set up a lan or make it public).

It basically involves installing Mysql, downloading the actual server files, then install WOW on your pc.

You use the tools included with the server download to extract the maps and database info from your wow install, start the server then launch WOW and connect….Well its not that easy but it isn’t too hard.

The good thing is you can adjust different aspects of the game to suit your style of play. like for example, when I was playing, my main goal was to see all the things that I couldn’t see when I played WOW. I raise the XP rate so that it doesn’t take forever to gain levels. Then I lowered the monster’s HP and damage output so that the monsters that are meant for groups and raid parties can be killed by me alone. Then I looked on Thottbot and found some of the cool gear that I was never able to get when I was playing, looked into the WOW server and added it to my characters inventory.

So thats my dirty little secret, WOW is a lot nicer when you can actually do everything there is to offer.
