Woohoo!!! I so hope this happens. Microsoft + Yahoo
I sound a bit happy, but Ive said before that Google needs some competition. I get home today to find that Microsoft has pulled out the ole golden wallet in efforts to bring together the number 2 and 3 search engine.
According to the BBC, Microsoft has sent a letter to Yahoo offering to purchase the company for about 44 billion (wow thats a lot of money). There has been rumors for a while that Yahoo would get bought by someone, with Microsoft’s name often as the potential buyer. It would seem that Microsoft was just sitting and waiting for the perfect opportunity. Yahoo announced earlier that it would take $300m to revive the company after shares fell 46%.
Is Microsoft buying Yahoo a good thing?
I think so. I don’t know if the 2 companies together will still be able compete with Google, but I am happy to see some competition. Google is getting a little too big for their britches. Yahoo hasn’t accepted the offer yet but it seems like they are considering it.

Yup, I agree with you, competition is always good. I hope it falls through. I think they’re seriously considering this one since they have new management and the one responsible for declining the first offer has already left yahoo.

The number 2 and 3 search engine merging to be more competitive with the number 1 search engine doesn’t affect us? As bloggers?
Who spend everyday writing post with hopes of it getting indexed by Google? SERP, Page rank?
