Veoh TV looks to give Joost a little competition with their free online TV app
About a week ago, I bought one of those Sierra Wireless usb Data cards from Sprint (review at Jonzee.com coming soon). It’s been great so far because I now have internet on the go. I figured a good thing to have now is some form of online TV to watch when I’m out and not doing work (or playing games) on my notebook.
Everyone has heard about Joost, and that is still installed on my PC from when I tried it out before, but I wanted to try something different.
That’s when I found out about VEOH TV.

VEOH TV is very similar to Joost, it has a standalone application for you to download. Once you start the program it has a nice, easy to use interface. Taking a quick run through of the program there seems to be a lot of things to watch. There are a list of channels, which include most of the major networks and a few cable stations.
Right off the bat, I was thinking “ok this is something I can try out” then I went through and started checking out the individual channels. That’s when I noticed that under each channel were a list of shows that are on that channel. And to my surprise, when I clicked on a show, there was a list of every episode of that show.
A full season of Jericho, a full season of Heroes, full episodes of CSI.
Seems like there are plenty of things to watch, which leads me to wonder how much of this stuff is legally on the platform.
Other things that are pretty cool about the software is you can actually record the shows you are viewing on your PC (which again lead me to think how much of this stuff is legally on the platform). Not only are there TV shows from regular network and cable stations. There are also channels that include online video, such as Youtube, and a lot of the video Podcast that are on the net, Tikibar TV anyone.
Looks like VEOH TV has something pretty interesting going on and I’m going to give it a shot for a little while to see how it holds up. Its currently in beta but anyone can sign up, no invites or anything like that. Check it out.

I got a hold of an invite for Joost but was never very impressed. Veoh, however, I’ve used for a while and can only sing it’s praises.

Just used it. In terms of content and stability, it’s miles beyond Joost.

I actually like the idea of Joost. Veoh seems like it had more things I would actually watch. Joost had things I would watch because “its there”, not necessarily because I want to watch it…if that makes any sense.

Veoh TV is much better than Joost or Miro. Joost and Miro advertise that they include TV channels like Discovery Channel, and people download the programs expecting to see full episodes, when what they really get are two or three minute clips, and to view them them have no choice but to download the clips. Veoh TV offers some genuine TV channels with full episodes like CSI, and other content that users upload, and you don’t have to download the content to watch it. As for the full episodes by the major TV networks, those are the episodes that are offered for viewing at the TV network’s website. For example, the CSI episodes available on Veoh TV from the CBS channel are the same episodes available from the CBS website. However, you cannot download these; you can only watch them streaming. If I had to choose between Joost, Miro, or Veoh TV, I’d pick Veoh TV.
