Wouldn’t it be great to be a professional blogger? When I say professional, I don’t mean starting a blog and dumping Adsense one it. I mean blogging as your primary job, what you do for a living is blog. You get up in the morning, do your research and write blog post. You do interviews, you deal with PR reps, you answer email, you go to trade shows and press events. Sounds good doesn’t it.

When you talk about becoming a blogger, a lot of people will tell you about how much actually goes into it and it isn’t as easy as you think. But I tend to daydream about it often. Especially 3 a.m Saturday night, when I’m hot, sweaty and dirty,  thinking about how I’m only 8 hours into my 12 1/2 hours shift. Being a professional blogger has to be better than this (anyone want to hire me?).

How do you find Blogging jobs?

Looking-For-A-Blogging-JobI had this silly notion in my head the other night…." Hey, Ive been blogging for over a year. I keep up with the tech and internet happenings, I know a little bit about things maybe I can get a blogging job…no more night shifts!!!!" So I spent a little bit of time searching for that lucky opening that would launch my lavish career as  "professional blogger extraodinar".

"Maybe I can get on with Ziff Davis. How about B5Media. The Rev 3 / Digg guys don’t have many bloggers, maybe I can find a gig there"

Well, I didn’t have much luck. Ziff Davis laughed, B5Media told me to kick rocks. The Rev 3 / Digg guys said I didn’t drink enough. Well none of that is true but thats what it felt like. I did find plenty of places that listed blogging jobs but if you are serious I would say that you have to really stay on top of those listings, for a long time. You’re not going to just find your blogging career in one night.

To start, a good place to check out is the Job board over at Problogger. Right now there isn’t a lot of listings but like I said, its something that you will probably have to keep checking. Another place I like is Bloggerjobs.biz. There you can post that you are a blogger looking for a job, or you can look through all of the blogger jobs that are listed. Beyond that, you pretty much have to just keep your eyes open. Sometimes when you go to different websites and blogs, you will see job postings. Sometimes in the form of a blog post or announcement, sometimes you can just click the small link thats in the footer of the page.

While your outlining and perfecting your "exit plan" from your 9-5 back breaking job, the best thing you can do is continue to blog on whatever blogging outlet you’re using now, perfecting your skill and hopefully, one day  you’ll get noticed.
