Red Ring of Death…..An Xbox 360 Tragedy

Well it finally happened!!!!! I got the red ring of death and I’m not too happy about it.
I bought my Xbox 360 around launch time, never had any problems with it, thought all the rumors were blown out of proportion.
Ive played plenty of games on it. Right from the beginning I heard about the overheating issues so I made sure I had it in a well ventilated spot on my entertainment shelf. Had it laid Horizontally and barely ever moved it.
A couple weeks ago I bought the game Crackdown. I have played a couple 2 or 3 hours sessions since that purchase. Tonight I sat down getting ready to play. I turned on the 360, checked to see if there were any new downloads, then loaded up Crackdown.
The intro screens came up then the game froze on the loading screen. I waited a few minutes then turned the 360 off. When I turned it back on, I got the inevitable 3 red flashing lights.
The really bad thing about this is that my Xbox 360 has been out of warranty for some time so I will have to pay for any repairs myself.
Its too late to call Microsoft right now but they will be hearing from me in the morning.
Update: I called Microsoft today, come to find out my 360 is still under warranty and they are going to repair it free of charge. Thats a good thing.

I had my first xbox for 3 months before it broke. I repair my own xbox’s now. I have brought a few broken ones of ebay and repaired them to sell on at a profit. nice work easy peasy.

Hey in the future if your xbox 360 ever brakes whatever you do, don’t try the wrapping the towel around your xbox 360- I had a bad experience with this.

Ha, happy ending then! I had same prob, happened on different game though. I was totally gutted though, my warranty was just over a week out. They didn’t want to know.
I wouldnt of minded so much if it was months over, but it totally killed me that it was less than 7 days out! Argh!

Hey. Yes, the red ring of death can be tricky to fix. Unfortunatly, when a friend of mine had this problem, his Xbox wasn’t under warranty. Glad you were under warranty though.

I’m glad you’re going to get it sorted free of charge. I’m dreading it.

What a pain, having to go without an xbox for about 1 month…at least i don’t have to pay for all the repairs

I hate that! I experienced the dreaded RROD about 18 months after I purchased the Xbox and I was also out of warranty! So I had to Compare Prices On Xbox 360 and get myself a new one. Apparently I was told that the newer manufactured consoles have a greater tendency to avoid the RROD, than the older manufactured consoles. So fingers crossed!

The red ring of death strikes again. It’s sooo frustrating to have your game die right in the middle of a boss fight. I found out that you can fix it yourself and save a bundle. Take a look at Microsoft xBox Repair. You might save some money on your repair.

Hey. Thanx for the tips.
I´ve done many searches on this subject but it´s hard to find a good site.
But again thank you for this article.
I recently got the (rrod) or red ring of death on my xBox. And my warranty had expired. But I’ve found a guide online that makes it easy to fix your xbox 360. A step by step guide also comes with videos, so it’s virtually idiot proof. I was playing my games again in less than an hour!
I really recommend it if you don´t want to pay $200 or more…
