I was reading over at John Chow’s blog about how Google is going through a page rank update and his PR jumped from 4 to 6. I was at work when I read that article so I was like "hmm pretty interesting, Im going to have to check mine out when I get home". Didn’t really think about it since then but I decided to check it out today.

Here the deal, I have 2 blogs.

  • This blog, www.jonespc.com was started in Feb of this year (again I had the domain for a few years). It has had a PR of 0 this whole time.

Well I headed over to rankalert.net and checked both blogs out and to my surprise both Jonespc and Jonzee are now PR 4. My evil link plan may look a little more attractive to some of you now with the higher page rank.

The noticeable thing is it only took about 4 months with JonesPC to get the PR that took almost 8 months with Jonzee. I pretty much attribute that to learning about SEO. When I first started Jonzee…all I knew was that I wanted to talk about gadgets, and I wanted to do a podcast. As time went on, I picked up a few small things. Some I just noticed from other sites, others are things I picked up from Paula, John chow, Eric landers, and a few other people who from time to time, give pretty useful tips. When I first started JonesPC, the things I have learned are pretty much the way I instinctively do things. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not, nor do I claim to be a PR or SEO experts, and the things I have done are pretty little small things, but they seems to help.

What does it mean?

Hmm I don’t know, this blog has jumped to about the same amount of traffic that Im getting over at Jonzee in a really small amount of time, actually has surpassed it in the last few weeks, thanks to stumbleupon.  I don’t think that has anything to do with PR. Maybe if I were still writing payperpost articles over at Jonzee, Id qualify for a few more of the higher paying gigs.

The main thing it really mean to me is that I see it as a measure of progress….somewhat. It just feels good to see that I’m not PR 0 anymore.
