I know many people are down in the dumps over Vista, and all the problems they are having with Microsoft’s OS. Me personally, Ive had it installed for almost a year and have really enjoyed it. If you have tried Vista and gave up on it, went back to XP, now may be a good time to give it another try. Word has it that tomorrow (March 18th) the long awaited SP1 update will be made available through Windows Update.

What improvements should we expect to see?

Windows-Vista-SP1Well doing a quick scan of Microsoft’s "SP1 notable changes" page, it looks like many of the changes are "under the hood" changes. Performance increases, faster file transfer and searching, and data access etc. The update is also said to fix some of the crashes people have been experiencing. Wifi looks like its been tweaked also. Other than that, there are some new features such as HDDVD / Bluray icons for people with those drives, and support for the exFat file system. Another thing that is added is DirectX 10.1

To get this update tomorrow, you have to manually pick it up through Microsoft’s windows update. Microsoft said that they aren’t going to push it out for automatic update till mid April

If you don’t have Vista, but want it with SP1 don’t worry

I remember when Vista was shipping, there were a lot of people that recommended that you wait for the first service pack before buying it. The last thing many new Vista owners want to do is buy Vista, install it, then wait for all of the updates to download to bring their version current. Lucky for you there is going to be a new version of Windows Vista with SP1 for sale at stores and online retailers like Amazon.com on march 19th.
