Is Gmail the now Hotmail?
Something happened to me today that I thought was pretty odd. Have you ever noticed that when you get email spam, you get a few pieces of spam at a time? Almost like it all came from the same person. Well earlier today I was driving along, running a few errands and happen to check my personal email account on my iPhone. I hit the refresh button on my email account and waited for it to retrieve my email.
I have my iPhone set to retrieve the 25 latest emails in each account. I sit and wait and then I hear the lovely sound the phone makes when I have new mail. The wierd thing is I had 25 pieces of spam email. All sent at the same time. 15 of those emails were all the same exact email, sent by the same person. This is when I wish the iPhone had a spam button.
Now Im not going to make the Dvorak claim and say "I gets no spam", but my personal email account, which I have through Yahoo, have the spam pretty much controlled. Only a few peices get through the spam filters. But like I said, its my personal email account. I ussually dont use it for anything except to email friends and family members. That email address just doesnt get out to spammers as often as say my website email (which I use gmail). So to get 25 peices of spam in a row like that was kindof odd.
Is Gmail the new favorite of Spammers?
That wasnt all. Once I got home to my computer, I went to get rid of all the spam (and block the email address that sent it) and notice there were a lot more than 25 pieces of email. Infact every email on the front page of my inbox was spam, all sent within minutes of eachother, most were the same spam and a lot were from the same email address. A Gmail address, which Im finding is being used more and more by spammers. Starting to remind me of how Hotmail use to be.

I have a yahoo account and gmail and I can’t tell the difference when it comes to spam… the stuff all tastes the same to me.

I have a gmail account and I quite like it, the spams usually come into the spam folder. My friend has a Yahoo account and she gets tons of spam into the Inbox. I think gmail is quite reliable still.

2 things that I dislike, spam and bots. They both get on my nerves something awful.

I have to say no it is not. Gmail still filters the majority of my spam and is very easy to use. I think it’ll be accepted as a legit service and not just for spammers until the next greatly popular email service pops up.

I still think GMail is doing a relatively good job of dealing with spam. I tend use my gmail for business dealings so maybe that helps by the fact my email never goes anywhere other than legitimate companies. All the same nothing on a computer is fault proof, 25 spam emails certainly seems a hefty amount though. The fact you got even beyond that just seems crazy to me.

You are absolutely right about gmail being the new hot target of spammers these days. There are a lot of advantages to gmail, probably the best one is when they collect related emails where in there is an exchange of responses and show it filed. I left my gmail account unattended for a couple weeks and I was swarmed with spam.

I have noticed an increase in those Nigerian scams from gmail accounts. I think it has more to do with the growing popularity of gmail.

My gmail account does a great job picking up the spam. It automatically moves it to the spam folder. Most of the time I do not even realize I have spam.

I’ve used Gmail for the last couple of years and found it to be pretty much excellent. All spam goes into the spam box automatically and I dont get anything in my inbox that I dont want.

Gmail is definitely hotter than hotmail in my opinion — some of its best features is that it lists email exchanges consecutively as in a conversation and gmail chat makes things a breeze too.

Although gmail does attract a lot of spam, I wouldn’t go so far as to say that it is the “new hotmail.” Gmail has a lot of cooler features and is much more advanced than hotmail.

Hmm, I don’t know if I actually agree with that. Hotmail has a lot of features and is pretty advanced.
Gmail is “Cool” but I don’t think it is any more advance than any other full featured web based email. I actually prefer Yahoo mail, and Hotmail seems to be modeling itself after Yahoo. (which Yahoo mail is probably the best web based email)

I think gmail is the wave of the future. I love how it groups related email into tabs. Makes work much easier.

The best feature of gmail is that it groups related emails together. Makes work a lot more easier.

My gmail inbox hasn’t gotten a lick of spam for a month. Compared to my hotmail account that junks my normal mail and gives me 20 spam a day. Gmail has cracked down and improved their spam filters - I highly prefer it.
