Get Paint.net, a free alternative to Photoshop
There is one necessary evil that comes with every windows install, or in my case Vista re-install. Thats getting all of the drivers and software that you had installed before back onto your PC just like you like it. So after my last re-install, I started putting Office back on, Win RAR, Firefox etc. I started looking for my old photoshop disc and couldn’t find it so I decided to try out something that I heard about not to long ago. I went to getpaint.net and downloaded the new free version of a little piece of software called Paint.net
What is Paint.net?

Its kindof hard to describe where Paint.net sits when compared to Microsoft paint and Photoshop. I would say its somewhere in between. Im not a heavy Photoshop user, so its good for me. It has a few more features than the plain ole Microsoft paint that is installed with Windows. I actually think for most, it would be a good Photoshop replacement.

Exactly the same thing happened to me this week… A clean install and a missing copy of Photoshop.
Fortunately I’ve played around with some alternatives for quite a while… Paint.net is a good basic program, but for me GIMP is a better alternative, especially since it now comes in a handy windows installer and that you can get GIMPshop – a mod that makes it almost identical to photoshop. It’s a little more powerful and has the ability to install a ton of plugins.
Similarly, if you are ever after a simple illustrator replacement, you can do far worse than inkscape.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’m trying to look for alternatives to Photoshop, it just takes a lot out of my system and I’m only doing basic editing. You might also want to try fotocanvas from ACD, it’s good for basic picture editing too.

I tried once to use photoshop, I couldn’t understand the interface, so complex, so many options…
So I tried Paint.Net and it is so easy and convenient to use. It allowed me to learn the basics of numeric design.

Adam_Y,
if you like Gimpshop maybe you can consider to use GimPhoto which based on newer version of GIMP and also bring new PS menu layout, packed with many great plugins, such as: separation, save for web, batch process, noise removal and photography filters, and also improved with new brushset, new gradientset, every aspect is tweaked to improve user usability.
