Farewell to GFW, one of my favorite magazines.
I currently have a Games for Windows Magazine subscription, had one for years. Pretty sad day, I happen to break away from my vacation this morning to read GFW is no more. No more as far as a print publication. Yea it looks like the magazine is going away and it Games for windows will be a completely online only publication. That pretty much leaves only PCGamer, if you want some PC gaming news on the newsstand.
As of right now, seems like everything else is business as usual. The GFW podcast is still going to be produced, which is a pretty good podcast.
For me personally, the closing of Games for Windows: The Official Magazine is not just a business decision (though, obviously it’s exactly that in reality), but feels more akin, in fact, to the passing of a loved one. Drama much? Well, you can scoff if you want, but the fact of the matter is that I have poured my heart and soul into this magazine, month after month after month, for over 10 years now. Every four weeks for 10 years I have done my best to get a quality magazine out the door, and the fact that I don’t have that deadline now is not in any way, despite the temptation to go for gallows humor, a source of relief. It feels like a giant gaping hole in my life. -Jeff Green GFW (read Jeff’s full post)

Sorry bu I really don’t get what’s all the drama about. If the magazine was really closing it would have been bad, but is stays- just changes it’s form. I’ve been reading all my magazines online for years so I don’t really think it’s a problem.

Something has been puzzling me: why is it called Games For Windows? Its not like Mac has any system specific games, and the few games they do have, they are already on the PC.

Well, The magazine use to be called “computer gaming world” (CGW) Microsoft made some sort of deal with them to call the magazine “Games For Windows” to coincide with the games for windows initiative Microsoft was promoting at one time.
there has only been 17 issues since the name change, but before that, since 1981 I think, its been called computer gaming world

I always wondered what happened to CGW. Granted I preferred EGM/CGM, but I would grab CGW on occasion when I saw an article I really wanted to read up on.
Oh, I like your current topic about the no follow.
