Do something productive with your PC, Write a book.
A few years after I graduated from High school I bought my first home PC. I had used PC’s before but I was always either at work, or at school, so I never really had a chance to do what I want with them. When I first bought that PC, I completely went over that little beige box of joy, I was like a 14 year old with a playboy magazine. After I drew a million pictures with Paint, surfed the web on AOL, played solitaire to the point of exhaustion, I started thinking….hmmm….I should do something productive. So one day I sat in front of the computer and started writing a book. I had the whole story in my head already, all I had to do was put it on paper….er… the screen.
I was working night shift at the time, so each morning when I got home, I wrote a page or 2 before I went to bed. Before I knew it I had about 6 or 7 chapters finished and the ideas were still flowing through my head as fast as I can type. Unfortunately, I discovered PC gaming and that book idea was put on hold. Since then I have tried to go back to writing it, telling myself I’m gonna finish it one day.
A while ago, I was listening to one of Chris Pirillo’s Podcast and he was interviewing one of the founders of Lulu.com, an online book and media publishing on demand company. At that time Lulu.com seem to be great for my little book idea. Needless to say, I was distracted once again by….PC gaming.
Ive let a few people read what I had written so far in that no named book and most of the responses have been favorable and many urged me to finish it. There were a few people that didn’t believe I wrote it and thought I was pulling their leg. So over the summer I went and got the old floppy disk and decided I was going to finish the book, The floppy disk was now about 12 years old, some of the files were corrupted and I couldn’t recover them but I managed to rewrite some of what was missing. Needless to say, World of Warcraft happened….Darn PC gaming.
One day I’m going to sit down and finish that book, its funny after all these years the story is still in my head just as clear as it was when I first sat down to write the book back in 1994.
