BlogRush, is it as great as I thought it would be?
If you look on the right sidebar of this blog, under the email subscribe form (sign up while your at it), you’d notice a empty space before the recent post list. What use to be there was there was the Blogrush widget. The code is still there so it should be showing up, but its not.
Why?
Well apparently it appears that my blog has been excluded from the service. I would say banned but its more like "not accepted". The blog itself isn’t banned, its just not accepted for a technical reason.
I noticed the widget not showing up a couple of weeks ago, but I was so involved with transferring and setting up Jonzee.com on wordpress that I put it off. The other day, I decided to find out what was wrong and why it isn’t showing up (it is showing up on Jonzee.com). I logged into the account and saw that it was no longer accepted because the title exceeds the character limit. This blog uses a SEO plugin that automatically creates a title, and it includes my tagline. Instead of "JonesPC.com" being the title, the title ends up being "Jonespc.com | Ramblings of an Urban Geek - Tech Enthusiast". Easy fix, Id just have to figure out how to keep the plugin from including the tagline, or use a different plugin all together.
I went to try to fix it and thought about it for a bit. These questions came to mind.
What has the Blogrush Widget done for this blog?
Not much at all
Has it brought me any traffic?
Very very little
Is it really as great as I once thought it would be?
actually it has been pretty disappointing
Would I rather just put something else in that space on the sidebar?
I have an idea that I want to try, and that spot is perfect for it.
As I sat down and thought about it, I realized that the Blogrush Widget has really turned out to not be what I thought it would be. I remember at first, I was thinking that this will end up being just as important as having Adsense and a RSS feed. In reality, it really has been just a space filler. I dont pay attention to it when I visit other sites that has it, and I think that is about the same when people visit my sites.
Maybe things will change, but for now, Im just not going to worry about getting this blog accepted again, I have really been thinking about removing it from Jonzee.com also.

You should try entrecard. It’s a new widget that just came out.
Basically, it’s blogrush for 125×125 ads.
I’m not saying i dont like blogrush..but even im kinda ify about how it its working for me…
I’m with you. I actually actively removed it from my site. CTR was pathetic. Relevancy of links displayed was sucky. The widget was visually distracting and it’s just another thing to slow down the rendering of pages. I took it out and I’m not looking back
I was searching the net for bloggings about Blogrush, because i’m in the same spot as you are. A small change, my blog has been accepted, but:
- i see little increase in the traffic.
- the widget looks awfull..
so in all, i’m really considering removing this widget as it is not really bringing me what i expected. I have seen mayor “postings” on other widgets, the click through is amazingly slow..
That may be because of the way i blog (just for personal fun, and probably not very SEO) but hey.. in that case.. why not loose the widget at all.
