Avot Media allows you to stream Youtube videos to your cell phone.
I only know one person that owns an iPhone. Other than playing around with it in the store, that one person’s iPhone is my only real experience with using the device unsupervised. One thing that was a “bullet point” on the list of iPhone features was the Youtube app, or section that allows you to view videos from Youtube on your iPhone.
I wasn’t ever able to do it. Yea my 2 year old Treo 650 can play videos, but as far as streaming videos from a webpage, to my phone…that’s out of the question. Probably out of the question for most phones, this is why that Youtube feature with the iPhone is pretty cool.
What if you want that functionality on your cell phone, without having to by an iPhone? Avot Media, inc is trying to create that functionality for you. When I first visited the Avot media website to check out their mobile web video service, I quickly got excited. The first thing I saw was a picture of a Treo smartphone with the Avot MV interface on the screen.
Avot MV is a service that lets you view internet video from popular Web video sharing sites on your cell phone. Sites like Youtube and Daily Motion. The service right now is in Beta, and only supports cell phones utilizing Widows mobile OS 5.0 or higher (which my Treo is a PalmOS Treo so my excitement was immediately crushed).
To get started, all you have to so is visit the Avot Mobile site from your cell phone by typing http://m.avotmedia.com in the browser. From there you can sign up and it will send you a text message linking you to the client download.
Once the client is downloaded to your cell phone, you can then start the client to view the selection of web videos. From the start, you will get a list of the popular videos of the day. But if you want to do a little surfing, there’s a search box that allows you to do searches for specific videos, or whatever you think you might want to see.
This service looks like it will be good for all you non iPhone owners that want to have access to all those great Youtube videos on the go. The service is free and supports EVDO, Edge, and WiFi connected phones (as long as you have Windows mobile OS 5.0 or higher). They are adding support for more phones every day and plan to roll out the service on other Mobile OS, so if the phone you have isn’t supported, it may be in the future.
To get a better idea of how the service works, you can check out the demo videos here and here. Also Visit the Avot Blog for updates.

I did give this a try. However it crashed my smart phone after watching two videos. Also the search was really really slow. I think Veveo / Iphone YouTube is better.
